why am i taking japanese??????

I think that my first introduction to anything Japanese were the anime shows that used to play on Cartoon Network when I was younger. A few years after they stopped showing my favorite ones, I went online to look for the shows, and many times only found the episodes in Japanese with English subtitles. It was the first time I had ever really listened to someone speaking Japanese and I found that I absolutely loved the sound of it. I also felt intrigued by the idea of learning to read Japanese, at least somewhat, because it so utterly different from most Western languages, which use similar alphabets, though they may be read very differently. It wasn't necessary that I take a language to fulfill my requirements, but I've often thought it would be wonderful if I knew all the languages of the world. However, as that is impossible, I've decided to study a language that I'm curious about.
I suppose the hardest thing I've found in studying Japanese so far is learning and memorizing the hiragana, and remembering the grammar rules. I don't know if there is any specific thing that I am excited about for Japanese class, but I am certainly very excited to learn the language and to be able to understand it.

This sounds very similar to me. I too always enjoyed anime when I was younger, and when I was older and started listening to them in Japanese with English subtitles, I really enjoyed it. It inspired me to learn a lot more about Japan and its culture, and made me what to learn the language.
